Lions Fight For Pride

Leicester continue their battle to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon when they visit Belle Vue for the final time on Friday night, where the home team remain in pursuit of the league’s No.1 rank.

The Watling JCB Lions have been on strong form of late and have even given some top four contenders quite a bit of a scare; in particular, their recent televised performance at Somerset.

Although without Polish hotshot Pawel Przedpelski, they will track a full-strength line-up with 2016 British Champion Danny King skippering his side at the National Speedway Stadium.

The Rentruck Aces meanwhile are riding the crest of a wave after a string of victories saw them collect a bundle of points and have really put pressure on currently league leaders Swindon.

Rider Replacement will again be in effect for the injured Max Fricke, who is reported to be making good progress, while Tero Aarnio stands in for European U-21 title contender Dan Bewley.

Steve Worrall leads Kim Nilsson

Substitute No.3 Steve Worrall said: “We had an interesting home meeting with Leicester earlier this year where they really kept us honest and, to be frank, proved their potential as a team.

“They’ve got some very strong characters in their side and with our recent result at Beaumont Park going against them, I’m sure they will be looking to even the score on Friday.

“We’re already quite comfortably in the top four but there remains that subconscious desire to finish top of the table, and being only two points behind Swindon means there’s still a job to do.

“We’ve got a busy bank holiday yet to come and after that, there’s only a couple more meetings for us before it’s crunch time so we need to knuckle down and show we mean business.”

There’s a double whammy on the cards come August 28 when the Rentruck Aces head to both Poole and Wolverhampton before returning home on Wednesday 30th to face Rye House.

Tickets for this meeting are available online at or at the stadium box office on race night.
